Mrs. Connett was honored as a Hometown Hero on October 22, 2022. Here is the text that was read at the ceremony:

The Lindsay ISD Board of Trustees selects a person who, through his/her efforts has brought a shining light to the Lindsay community.  We recognize each recipient as being our Hometown Hero!  We are here tonight to honor Denise Schumacher Connett as Lindsay’s Hometown Hero.

Mrs. Connett was born in Wichita, Kansas and she is the daughter of Joe and Roy Tredenick.  She has two sisters, Jody Hobbs and Kim Klement, and one brother Sam Tredenick.  Mrs. Connett’s family moved to Gainesville and Denise graduated from Gainesville High School.  After high school, Denise attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a degree in elementary education.

After graduating from Texas Tech University, Mrs. Connett taught at Levelland ISD, Sivells Bend ISD, and Saint Mary’s before her first year teaching at Lindsay.  Mrs. Connett’s first job at Lindsay ISD was teaching Third Grade.

When Mrs. Connett began at Lindsay ISD, she was the youngest teacher in the district.  She was very fortunate to have strong role models at the school to help guide her.  Sister Ferdinand, Sister Benedict, Gladys Bezner, Mary Woody, Sarah Lester, Gilbert Hermes, Henry Schroeder, and Glen Hellman were all very influential during this time.

After three years of teaching third grade, Mrs. Connett began teaching kindergarten.  She taught kindergarten for the next 37 years of her career.  Mrs. Connett was blessed with many wonderful teachers with whom she enjoyed working with.  She especially enjoyed working with her friend and teaching partner, Jane Otto.  She has taught many entire families of the Lindsay community including some of the teachers now teaching at Lindsay.  Mrs. Connett is a member of the Saint Peter’s Catholic Church.

While teaching at Lindsay ISD, Mrs. Connett taught kindergarten religion for 27 years, Picture Memory Coach for 22 years, chaperoned the Spanish 3 field trip to Chihuahuah, Mexico for four years, and was drill team sponsor for 2 years.

Mrs. Connett retired in May of 2019 after a teaching career that spanned 5 decades and having taught 40 years at Lindsay ISD.  She still substitutes at the school whenever she can.

Mrs. Connett is married to Richard Connett.  She is step mother to 2 children and she has 4 grand-children that she loves spending time with.  Mrs. Connett loves going to the beach with her family to collect sea shells and sand dollars every summer.  Every year, she gives the sea shells and sand dollars to the kindergarten class.  Mrs. Connett still plays pickle ball with some of the teachers once a week.

Thank you Denise Schumacher Connett for all that you have done for the school and community!!  You have made a positive impact on every student that you have taught and every person you have met!  You are truly a HOME TOWN HERO!
