The NHS National Council establishes the national standards
for all NHS chapters. Local chapters may create their own by-laws which
must remain consistent to and in complicance with the NHS National
Constitution.
Any student in grades 11 and 12 in a school with both an
official Charter of the National Honor Society and an official
affiliation with the NASSP Department of Student Activities is eligile
for consideration for membership in the National Honor Society. All
membership selection is handled through each local school chapter.
More than just an honor roll, the NHS chapter establishes
rules for membership which are based upon a student's outstanding
performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and
character. These four criteria for selection form the foundation upon
which the organization and its activities are built.
Student Selection
| I. |
In February all 11-12 grade students academic records
will be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility - students must
have at least a 90 average. |
| II. |
Students who are eligible scholastically will be
notified, and told that for further consideration for selection to the
NHS Chapter that they must complete the Student Activity
Information form. |
| III. |
The Student Activity Information form will be reviewed
by the Faculty Council, along with any other verifiable information
about each Candidate--additional faculty input, student records, etc. |
| IV. |
The Faculty Council will then, by secret ballot, vote
on each Candidate. Candidates recieving a majority vote of the Faculty
Council will be inducted into the Chapter. |
